Norlan Horita

Born and raised on the island of Kauai, Norlan grew up surrounded by world class tourist destinations featuring some of the best culinary institutions in Hawaii. He would then start his culinary training at the renowned KCC Kauai culinary college program and later transfer to the KCC culinary program at the Diamond Head campus in Honolulu.

Chef Norlan then met Chef Grant Kawasaki at the UH Manoa campus which started their future careers in the culinary industry. He then joined Sushi Supreme, a newly formed company at the time, and together with Chef Shannon Akazawa and Chef Grant Kawasaki, began the building process of what was to become Global Foods, Inc.

Norlan took a brief leave of absence to Washington to pursue a possible venture into the medical industry. He later confirmed after a few years that his true calling, skills and passion were in the culinary industry. I was then that he regrouped with Akazawa and Kawasaki to continue to expand and help lead their food service team and staff towards success. His strengths in culinary expertise, assisting in marketing, research & development, training and staff organization enabled Global Foods, Inc. to diversify and create its other specialized subsidiary companies.

Today Chef Norlan is in an anchor position with the corporate food service team and is an expert consultant on board the newly formed Zaibatsu Food Group consulting firm along with Akazawa and Kawasaki. He also will be heading most of the outer island catering operations along with a key position in research and development with Paradise Dressings Hawaii. Chef Norlan is also the newly appointed Director of Fusion Cuisine with Hawaiian Grown Catering and is Executive VP/Corporate Partner with the new sushi retail chain, Hanapa'a Sushi Company.
